gray walk through sunny oakland

In May, my friend Lynne Jones, artist/painter, described a walk she had taken from our neighborhood towards downtown Oakland
as a visual field of grays.

I persuaded Lynne to take me on the same “gray walk” and thus, a week later we set out on our 3 mile jaunt from Piedmont Avenue via Lynda Street, past the Rose Garden, over HWY 580, through Adams Point, ending on the north end of Lake Merritt. And apropos, at the end of our walk, is a preponderantly gray concrete and glass edifice: the Cathedral of Christ the Light. And, as a contrast from the plethora of cityscape grays, we entered the chapel to find a space filled with warm brown woods and violet glazed walls. see below
